I never really watch these events but I LOVE the outfits. The floor length fishtail look was my favorite and all my picks have really well put together hair and makeup that enhance their outfits too.

That detail is so beautiful and the transition to the feathers isn't obnoxious.

Maria Menounos
That color and that shape were the most vibrant and eye-catching.

Salma Hayak
The way the color flows in that top and in her hair make a great shape.

Angelina Jolie
The colorblocking here is on point. And that slit is killer!

Sarah Hyland
I love the simplicity of this one. Very romantic.

Who had the worst???

It's a tie between Emily Deschanel and Zooey Deschanel.
Such a let down. Emily's is too frumpy and Zooey's has no wow factor.

Wrapping up 2011 with this kick ass video from summer!

Back in August, Jakprints (where I work) put together an event called Jak of all Trades. An accumulation of music, skateboarding, bike polo, food trucks and fashion by employees, local vendors, clients and friends all toether in our back parking lot! I volunteered to put together a fashion show using apparel from local clients that use Jakprints and it turned out awesome!

So happy to be a part of it and can't wait for new things to come in 2012.

MAC makeup thinks so and I couldn't agree more.

We first learned the real world of aids in the early 90's
when Pedro Zamora told his story.

Now it's MAC makeup and Lady Gaga
using her celebrity status to spread awareness.

I hate to say it, but I think our society has made such an effort to make everyone aware of cancer lately that we've forgotten about AIDS. Don't get me wrong, cancer is a horrible horrible thing and it saddens me to hear of anyone diagnosed with it. But, while cancer can be cured in many cases, the HIV virus is only treatable. With how much unhidden sex appeal is in our media now a days, it's easy to look past what a bad decision unsafe sex can be.
Spread the word and stop the disease.

What can I do to help you ask? Well, I don't know about you but I don't mind laying some Viva Glam lipstick on my lips. It's wonderful to see just how much purchasing one lipstick can help. Check out this link for more information about the MAC aids fund.

p.s. No, I don't work at MAC.
It just feels good to know that of my favorite everyday used products can help make a difference!

While I've never seen the trilogy of movies or read the books, the newest adaptation coming out in December of this year looks intriguing. I may have to pick up the book before I watch the movie.

Many of you may be visiting my page for the first time, thanks to a lovely article written in today's Plain Dealer. If it's your first time visiting my site, welcome!!

This is amazing!! I need to get to Chicago STAT! There is currently a 26-foot-tall sculpture of Marilyn Monroe standing in her famous pose from the movie 'The Seven Year Itch'. It's looks so real (kudos artist Seward Johnson). Made from stainless steel and aluminum the statue weighs about 34,000lbs. We've got til next spring to go see it. Who's coming with me?

A week ago I was invited to the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame's new Exhibit: Women Who Rock and it was AWESOME! Honoring some of the best women in music history, old and new. Displaying outfits worn, memo's written, beat up instruments and more.

In attendance was Darlene Love, Wanda Jackson and Cyndi Lauper.

Ronnie Spector from the Ronettes was there and sang her big hit "Be my Baby". She was so spunky and flirty, it was awesome!

Here were some of my favorite exhibits (that I could get a picture of at least):

Yep. The scandalous outfit Britney Spears wore for the 2000 VMA's. I totally remember see this on TV and thinking "damn, she just went for it". And the rest was history.

Found some sweet pictures from a Haunted House convention I went to a few weeks ago in St. Louis. The event was pretty interesting. It was full of costumes, props, makeup and all the other fun scary stuff you would find in a haunted house. Here were some of my favorite outfits from the weekend.

So if your like me, when you drink from a can you pull the top off. Have you ever thought about what you could do with them if you saved them? The designer below thought to strand them together and sew them onto the bottom of the dress below to create a sophisticated structured look.

I saw this dress recently at the GreenLife Gala held at the Progressive Headquarters in Mayfield. The event was hosted by Beachwood Highschool's marketing class and they did an awesome job keeping it swanky!

First, there was an art walk through Progressive showing off all the amazing artwork that they've collected over the years. Some of my favorite pieces were the aluminum origami birds lounging and swinging in one of the walk through, the larger then life geisha bathing and the beautiful chandeliers that were made of huge strands coated in tons and tons of white wax.

Dinner was filled with organic and vegan treats by Fire, Spice of Life Catering, Vegiterranean and Jeni's Ice Cream. The Riesling roasted pear is the the BEST! The vegan brownies in the pic below were to die for too!!

For dessert, I sat front row for a fashion show put on by Virginia Marti College. The theme was recycled content and everything from newspaper, bottle tops, vintage fabrics, and grocery bags were used to show off a green style.

Emilie Autumn

So I've been working with a new client named Emilie Autumn. She is starting a new US tour and her first show is at Peabody's tonight.

While reviewing the tour dates on her website, I stumbled upon a video of her playing and singing live. She is a trained violinist with this victorian, burlesque, industrial-goth style that is interesting and unique. While she looks "girlie and cute", her songs and stage presence tell a different story of dark personal issues and struggles she has had to face throughout her life.
Pretty excited to meet her. Here's the video that got me hooked.

Mad Magazine vs. Converse.

Artist and really good friend Chris Miles created these super awesome kicks for a friend and I want a pair sooooooo bad! Wanting to put his own special touch on a pair of blank Converse, he turned to Alfred E. Neuman for inspiration.

Spy vs. Spy is the best cartoon in that magazine. I loved the ones with the grey spy "lady grey". Instead of either of the Black or White Spy winning the battle, Grey would always win, usually by playing the role of damsel in distress. I'm hoping I can sweet talk him into making a custom pair for me ;)

How about that sparkly rib cage dress worn by Nicki Minaj. The designer behind this wild structural piece of art is Indian designer Manish Arora. Creating colorful and whimsical outfits since 1997, he is better known as the "John Galliano of India".

Publicly recognized when one of his dresses was worn by a very pregnant M.I.A during the 2009 Grammys.

Katy Perry also wore his carousel dress at the MTV European Awards in 2009.

Intrigued by the yellow arm piece worn by Willow Smith at the AMA's (see my previous post), I started to do some research to find the designer behind that beautiful creation. Turns out there is a little fashion drama involved, because that piece is a knockoff of a Mother of London design.

American Music Awards 2010

So I didn't get a chance to watch the American Music Awards last night but thanks to good old youtube, I was able to catch the highlights. Unfortunately, there were only a few good performances worth watching the whole way through. Luckily, there were some entertaining outfits.

Fergie emphasized her figure in colorful, hourglass shaped structural pieces.

Nicki Minaj's colorful style might have been my favorite of the night.
From the wild green extensions in her hair to the coral colored dress with gold accents that looked like her rib cage was on the outside.
Props for just going for it.

Little Willow Smith. I really can't believe this girl is only 9.
That one sleeve, yellow strapped number is awesome. The rest is debatable.

Rihanna played with monochromatic colors on the red carpet
then showed some tropical flair on stage.

Love the sparkly peek-a-boo cut outs in Christina Millian's dress.

Katy Perry went from pretty in pink to red hot firework.

Oh, and then there is Ke$ha..

She recently teamed up with Fred Perry to showcase her 40's-50's signature look, with modern styled bowling shirts, perfect looking pencil skirts and a really, really cute trench coat! The line is mostly made up of pink, black and grey hues, checkered and gingham details and of course that cute little laurel logo. I want one of everything!!

Back To The Future 2 has been on repeat for the past few weeks and I LOVE IT. So when my boyfriend stumbled across this bit of future history, you can imagine my jaw dropped. Remember the part when Marty throws on a pair of self lacing Nike kicks and you were like "I NEED THIS NOW"???

Well rumor has it someone has been playing around with the idea still and it actually is in the works. I found this video confirming a closer reality

I've been really diggin on the galaxy print trend floating around, so I gathered a few awesome pics of the print and used them as inspiration for Ingenuity Fest/Fashion Week Cleveland.

Reminiscing on my recent rant on the beauty of "light up dresses", I decided one up this trend and throw some LED lights into my creation. Here were some of my sketches and the layout for my one shoulder print galaxy print dress.

The final result...

I created the dress by using a print method called dye sublimation and added in a strand of strategically placed LED lights underneath. With the evening event being held under the Detriot-Superior Bridge, the dark setting really helped me stand out in the crowd!

Hair and makeup provided by Imagine salon and spa in Willoughby. I told them Judy Jetson and they gave me this wild, spacey updo!

Like most, I tend to layer more as the weather changes from summer to fall. This year I'm on a mission to find the perfect fall bag that will keep up with my indecisiveness.

My boyfriend had a bag made for him about a year ago from his friend Michael Hudecek, who has a bag line called Forest City Portage. Joey was looking for a bag big enough for a weekend getaway to LA and he got just that. The icing on the cake? The Cleveland skyline inside of a heart and cross bone stitched on the outside flap. Jealous.

Here are some other bags he has made in the past that were also favorites. Love the shape and color of the bags and the car seat belt buckles as straps.

I contacted Michael to see if I can get a bag of my own. Something that is just big enough to fit my constant changing of sweaters and cardigans along with maybe a book or two. We plan on meeting up soon to discuss some fun ways to personalize my bag. Here are some funky bags that I found in search for inspiration.

Manhattan Portage came out with a new Bike Messenger Bag in July. Didn't notice them until now. I really like the simplicity of that pattern.

Ingenuity refers to the process of applying ideas to solve problems or meet challenges. So here is my problem and my challenge. I need to come up with some designs for Ingenuity Fest at the end of this month! My inspiration? The romance between LED lights, fiber optics, mirrors and screen printed fabrics. Here are some really neat ideas from people who have already lead the way.

Moritz Waldemeyer designed this beauty for Rihanna's Last Girl on Earth Tour.

Lady Gaga's disco ball dress.

Katy Perry in a dress by CuteCircuit. Layers silk chiffon and over 3000 LEDs creating a rainbow of colors.

Here is another dress by CuteCircuit which is part of the "Fast Forward: Inventing the Future” exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

How about a fiber optic halter top by Lumigram? LumiGram proposes high tech luminous clothes, light up fashion accessories and custom luminous decoration items based on woven fiber optics technology.

During a recent trip to Miami with my man, we stayed overnight in South Beach and passed the glamorous Versace house. Inspired and intrigued, I found a book to read on the beach.

Obsessed!

I am halfway through and I've been sucked in their world. The power Trio: Gianni the creator, Donatella the muse and Santo the brains.

His bold and flashy style were just what women craved in the late 80's early 90's. He defined the "supermodel" woman (with encouragement from Donatella and her attention to the new faces in the party scene).

Two huge spotlights for Versace:
Elizabeth Hurley's infamous 'safety pin' dress. She stole the show at the opening of Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994.

And who can forget that plunging green number worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 2000 Grammys.

Check out the colorful works by Sarah Dougherty. I am lucky enough to have met this lovely lady through my circle of friends. She was happy to open up and tell me a little about herself and her beautiful art.

"I've always been into art, I realized I wanted to do something creative seriously in high school. My senior year I mostly spent in the art room. I went to Kent for a couple of years for Fine arts. There I took a couple drawing classes and one painting class. Freshmen year of college is when I really started making my own artwork that wasn't for a school project. I shortly after started painting almost only girls and accidentally developed a style."

"As for mediums, I usually either paint on wood or canvas with acrylic. Also I often layer watercolor, chalk, charcoal, ink, and acrylic on bristol or water color."

"I find fashion, hair, makeup, and photography to all be linked and very inspirational. I usually flip through obscure art and fashion magazines for images that reflect or enhance the ideas I get."

OK. So ~~I love~~ I am obsessed with project runway.
And this season, there is a contestant from Cleveland, Ohio- Valerie Mayen. This just gives me another reason to watch and root for a hometown lady. What's even better than that? Her work is AMAZING!!!

Structural pieces with bold color seems to be her niche.

One the first episode, she had to use an article of clothing from another contestant's suitcase to create a look...

she only had 5 HOURS to do it! Bahh, I'd lose my mind.

She came up with this, which I think was pretty cool, even though I'm sure she wished she had more time. Could you imagine??

I finally got a chance to post some of the wonderful pictures from the Speakeasy 2.0 event for Ingenuity Fest and Fashion Week Cleveland asked me to be a part of. It was a little hectic from the get go but it ended up being a blast and I met some really awesome designers!

The flashy and trashy designs of Heatherette are unfortunately no more, but the legacy still lives on. From 1999 to 2008, the power duo of Richie Rich and Traver Rains ruled the world of sparkle and glitter. I remember a few years ago before my passion for fashion began, seeing paparazzi-loving celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson sporting these kooky looks and thinking, "I want, I want, I want!".

No new posts since July 5th?! I'm slacking! ;)

The last few weeks have been pretty crazy and really exciting!! I've been lucky enough to participate in a few shows to get my name out there in the crazy world of streetwear. It's been quite a learning experience and I am eager to keep going!

My first two official shows were the Waterloo Arts Fest and Cirque Imaginare: The Traveling Art Gallery and Bazzar. Unfortunately, I didn't snag any pics but I had a blast and met some really cool artists. I will be posting some favs in the next couple entries.

On this day over 60 years ago (1946 to be exact), the bikini baiting suit shocked viewers at a popular swimming pool in Paris.

During the 30s, European women wore two-piece bathing suits that consisted of a halter tops and shorts. Midriffs were exposed but belly buttons were a no-no.

Then came the competition of who could create a smallest bathing suit. French designers, Jacques Heim and Louis Reard brought their ideas to the table and out came the bikini. The sexy new swimwear was named after the Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, the site of atomic bomb testings.

Having a hard time finding someone to model this daring new creation, they turned to exotic dancer Micheline Bernardini, who had no problems showing a little skin.

Americans didn't catch on until the bikini was popularized by pop singer Brian Hyland, who sang "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" in 1960. Bikinis then popped up in the teenage "beach blanket" movies of Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon.

Many credit goes to Bridget Bardot who became idolized as The Bikini Girl in the 60's, landing her many roles in the film industry.

Other nods to the love for the bikini in film: Raquel Welch covered in fur for the movie One Million Years B.C. (1966)

As well as Ursula Andress as Bond girl Honey Ryder in Dr. No (1962)

The very first bikini to ever grace the coveted Sports Illustrated magazine was January 20, 1964. They got the right idea and kept it going.

Now a days, not much has changed. The skimpier the better. I leave you with the beautiful Victoria's Secret models showing us how it's done.

new things i've made

So over the past few months I've drooled over acid wash material, hair bows, and custom kicks. Well, I've taken my obsession to the next level by making these ideas my own. Participating in the Waterloo Festival really kicked my creativity into high gear and I'm proud to share some of my new items (pictures of all the neat things I discovered at Waterloo are coming soon too, stay tuned).

My first plan of attack was to make acid wash hair bows. I was on a mission, searching through every thrift store in the area to find the perfect acid wash jean material. Not satisfied with anything I saw, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make friends with some bleach and a bucket. I tested a bunch of different colors, but the black jeans came out the best. Also, while constructing the bows, I noticed that my boyfriend finally cut his ripped up jeans into shorts. I guess the safety pins at the knees weren't working anymore. Well lucky for me, that was more material to make a different kind of bow.

Spray painting my shoes was such a random and exciting activity. I mean these shoes haven't been worn in years, so making them new and fresh was really fun! What made me extra happy was that I got such unexpectedly good feedback. Now I'm anxious to get out there and search for new styles to customize and in all different sizes.

Below is a sneak peak at some of the new items that will be hitting my Etsy store soon, alongside the bows and shoes. I've got a new black tote bag with a sexy burlesque print and a new t-shirt with an over-sized print of a roller coaster from the 50's.

oooooieee! my brain is filled with ideas.
My lovely friend Rochelle has asked me to work a table with her at the Waterloo festival coming in the next few weeks! If you are new to this blog, last summer I gushed at how awesome the festival was and how I met her there. Waterloo Street Fair 2009 and Lu-owl Vintage

While I have some few things printed. I want to have more fun summer accessories. But, I'm also reeeeeally broke right now. So it has made me really creative lately. I've basically been taking things hidden at the back end of my closet and creating little frankensteins if you will.

The festival is June 26th, so I only have a few weeks.
Few things on my agenda:
-Figure out how to make rubber stamps.
-Borrow a sewing maching (mine is out of commission temporarily, grrrr).
-Find bleach and rubber gloves for an "acid trip"...
